Canada vs Sweden 4 Nations Face-Off Picks

UNDER 5.5 Goals, -110 at Sportsbook

This Canada team has all the top talent in the world, with Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and Cale Makar. But, when the games matter most, the Canadians love to play no mistake, shutdown hockey. In the last two games of the 2016 World Cup (the last time we saw NHL players at a best-on-best) Canada's games totaled to four and three goals. In the medal rounds of the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Canada's games never totalled more than three goals (2-1, 1-0, 3-0).

In such a short tournament, I expect Canada to play every game at the 4 Nations like an elimination contest. That means no risks, possession hockey, and low-scoring games. The goaltending is obviously a question mark with Jordan Binnington in net, but I still think we get below 5.5 goals with ease in this one.

Sweden Moneyline, +202 at Sportsbook

If you really want a winner pick for this contest, I'm taking the Swedes. I have some serious questions about Canada's goaltending and the health of Sidney Crosby is also very much up in the air. For a nation that has lost its grip on the international hockey stage since the last best-on-best tournament, this could be a public reckoning for Canada.

Canada vs Sweden 4 Nations Face-Off Props

William Nylander To Score, +300 at Sportsbook

Nylander has the eighth-shortest odds to score in this game, which is frankly disrespectful. The Swedish winger has more goals this NHL season than any other player in the 4 Nations, with 33 in 55 games this year. He's on pace to score 40+ goals for a third-straight season.

Unlike many Leafs players, Nylander also loves the spotlight. In his last 20 NHL playoff games, Nylander has 10 goals and 10 assists. The Swedish forward also loves this specific venue. In three games at Bell Centre this year, Nylander already has two goals and three points.

With my biggest worry for this game being Canada's goaltending, I've gotta take a value prop on a Swedish goal. Nylander is the perfect guy to target.
