Panthers Favored To Snap Skid Facing Reeling Giants

Sam Darnold leads the Panthers against the Giants

The Carolina Panthers (3-3 SU, 3-3 ATS) are 0-3 SU and ATS over their last three games since starting the season off on a 3-0 SU and ATS run. The Panthers will try to get back in the win column on the road Sunday against the New York Giants (1-5, 2-4).

Opening Odds Analysis

The Panthers opened as 3-point road favorites in Sunday’s matchup. Heavy action on the UNDER has pushed the line down to 43 points since it opened at 45.5 points. The OVER is 5-1 in New York’s last six home games against Carolina.

Carolina News & Notes

Sam Darnold completed only 17 of 41 passes for 207 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Carolina’s 34-28 overtime loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Robby Anderson contributed to the problem with multiple drops and only three catches on 11 targets. But despite those struggles, the Panthers still scored 28 points with Christian McCaffrey out of the lineup.

Carolina’s defense got torched for 34 points and 571 total yards in the loss. Since allowing only 191 yards and 10 points per game during their 3-0 SU and ATS streak, the Panthers have now allowed 425.7 yards and 30.3 points during their 0-3 SU and ATS skid. With McCaffrey still out on injured reserve, the defense needs to step up to help take some of the pressure off the offense.

New York News & Notes

The injury-depleted Giants got crushed by the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday, falling into a 28-3 hole by halftime and eventually going on to lose 38-11. Daniel Jones went 29-for-51 with 242 passing yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. As the losses keep piling up with Jones under center and Joe Judge on the sidelines, questions about their futures in New York keep building up as well.

Saquon Barkley and Kenny Golladay returned to practice this week, but both are still considered to be doubtful to return against Carolina. Kadarius Toney has been ruled out of this Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. Sterling Shepard had 10 catches for 76 yards against the Rams and will be the best weapon at Jones’ disposal on Sunday.

How Carolina Will Cover

This depleted Giants offense could be just what the doctor ordered for Carolina’s struggling defense. If Carolina can take an early lead and force the Giants to abandon their running game, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Panthers roll to an easy victory.

How New York Will Cover

New York has suffered back-to-back blowout losses, but those have come against two excellent teams in the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams. The Giants beat New Orleans and lost by three points or less to Atlanta and Washington. A good effort by the defense and Jones limiting his mistakes would give New York the path to a win or cover.
