Sportsbook Odds Analysis

This will be Cleveland’s second game at MetLife Stadium in eight days, and the team got some good news Monday night when the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Cincinnati Bengals. That means the Browns have a realistic shot at winning the AFC North now if they win this game and the Steelers lose again at home against the Indianapolis Colts, since the teams will meet for a second time at Cleveland in the regular-season finale. The Jets have received a little public support off their big win, with the point spread dropping down slightly to -9.5. The total is also up 2 points or more at most books after seeing New York figure out a way to score enough points against the best defense in the NFL.

Cleveland News & Notes

Who would have thought the Browns could be in a prime position to steal the division title after getting swept by the Baltimore Ravens with a 47-42 loss in the Week 14 Monday Night Football matchup?

Give credit to Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski for getting his team to rebound rather easily last week, albeit against an inferior opponent. Regardless, the Giants still have something to play for much like the Browns, who have now won five of their last six games and have gone 3-3 against the spread during that stretch.

This will not be an easy game either for Cleveland considering the Jets have covered the spread in four of their last six games, with three of the straight-up losses decided by six points or less.

New York News & Notes

While the motivation for Cleveland is crystal clear, who knows what is going on in the minds of the New York players and coaches following their first victory. Surely, they had to be happy not to be part of history as the third 0-16 team ever.

But New York also no longer sits in the No. 1 position for the 2021 NFL Draft, otherwise known as the Trevor Lawrence Sweepstakes. The Jets surrendered that position to the Jaguars with their win, and now New York needs to lose out and see Jacksonville win one of its last two games to jump back into the top spot.

The Jets have certainly been more competitive lately, but bettors have to wonder about a serious letdown spot here.

Betting Pick: UNDER 46.5

The game plan for the Browns should be a carbon copy of last week’s victory against the Giants – play great defensively and do just enough offensively to win the game. Nothing fancy is needed by Cleveland in this spot other than simply leaving MetLife Stadium with another W. The Jets have not scored more than 17 points in the past three meetings over the last three years, and they will not surpass that total again. Look for another low-scoring matchup between two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum.
