  • The Cleveland Browns (1-0 straight up, 1-0 against the spread) will attempt to build on an impressive season-opening performance in their second straight game against a divisional foe on Monday night when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers (0-1, 0-1) as small road favorites.

    The Browns blew out the Cincinnati Bengals 24-3 last week as one-point home underdogs in an AFC North matchup while the Steelers were also one-point home dogs but ended up on the wrong side of a 30-7 rout by the San Francisco 49ers.

    Cleveland’s offense was not perfect in Week 1, but the defense played extremely well in holding Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow to a career-low 82 passing yards. The Browns improved to 5-1 versus Burrow, and now they have the challenge of trying to hold second-year signal caller Kenny Pickett in check for the Steelers.

    The tricky part for Cleveland will be trying to perform well as a favorite in this situation, especially on the road. The Browns are just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as favorites and 3-8 ATS in their past 11 in the same scenario away from home. The good news is that the team has gone 5-2 SU in its previous seven as a road favorite and 5-2 ATS in its last seven divisional games.

    Latest Betting Notes: Steelers

    Many expected Pittsburgh to give San Francisco a battle, but it never happened. The 49ers steamrolled the Steelers behind 152 rushing yards from running back Christian McCaffrey, who also scored on a 65-yard touchdown run.

    That does not bode well here considering Cleveland running back Nick Chubb is coming off a 106-yard rushing effort against Cincinnati while quarterback Deshaun Watson added 45 yards on the ground, including a 13-yard touchdown run. Offensively, the Steelers were held to a single Pickett touchdown pass to tight end Pat Freiermuth after trailing 20-0 in the second quarter.

    The Keys to Victory: Browns

    The Cleveland offense has the potential to do exactly what San Francisco did to Pittsburgh last week, so look for Chubb to put together comparable rushing stats to McCaffrey.

    Defensively, the Browns need to keep putting pressure on Pickett like they did with Burrow last week as well. The Steelers will likely be down a key wide receiver too after Dionte Johnson suffered a hamstring injury, so that is one less player to worry about.

    The Keys to Victory: Steelers

    Pittsburgh did not used to lose consecutive home games often, but last season it happened on multiple occasions when Pickett was a rookie. However, the two times it occurred last year did not happen in two straight weeks, and that is something that the team is looking to avoid in this spot.

    You have to go back to September of 2021 to find the last time the Steelers lost home games in consecutive weeks. That said, their defense must play much better and hold the Browns in check, especially their running game.
