The Dallas Cowboys will visit the New York Giants in Week 14 and, typically, this should be a heated divisional matchup but most of the focus has been off the field and not on it. The Giants’ quarterback shuffle and housecleaning of their GM and head coach has left an even larger cloud over the 2-10 SU squad. The G-Men opened as 4-point home dogs at MetLife Stadium.
While on paper this should be an easy matchup for Dallas, bettors shouldn’t immediately rush to place a wager on the Cowboys. America’s Team took care of business last week against the Redskins but it’s hard to forget their performance the previous three games (0-3 SU and ATS) without Ezekiel Elliott and Sean Lee. Missing those two players has put them behind the 8-ball and their chances to make the playoffs are slim at best. But Lee is expected back this week and backup running back Alfred Morris did his best Zeke impression in Week 13, which should give them hope to tread water while waiting for Elliott to return.
Meanwhile, the New York Giants have had enough drama in the last two weeks to make the creators of Riverdale blush. They are expected to reinstate Eli Manning as their starter so that should at least be an upgrade over Geno Smith. But the problems for the Giants go far deeper than quarterback. Their defense is supposed to be their bread and butter but they rank in the bottom five in rushing yards and passing yards allowed this season. At this point, it would be very difficult to support endorsing a wager on the Giants.
The total opened at 41 points and an interesting note for bettors is the UNDER has hit in three straight games in this matchup. The Giants only average just over 15 points per game this season and have topped 20 points once in their last seven games. While the Cowboys dropped 38 on the Redskins, it’s hard to overlook their performance in the previous three games where they managed a total of only 22 points.
