Cowboys are slight favorites vs Eagles with only pride on the line

The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles will meet in their regular-season finale and while playoff implications are non-existent, America’s Team may still be looking to stick it to their division rival who clobbered them in Week 11. Dallas, knocked out of the playoffs by Seattle in Week 15, opened as a slight favorite vs the NFC East champs.

SHARK BITES
  • Dallas is 4-1 SU and ATS in its last five games at Philadelphia.
  • The total has gone UNDER in seven of the Cowboys’ last eight games.
  • The Eagles are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games.

The Cowboys have to be kicking themselves for throwing away that game vs the Seahawks. Dallas had multiple opportunities to score against a depleted Seattle team, and with Ezekiel Elliott returning from suspension, head coach Jason Garrett continued to make boneheaded decisions that led to their demise (why do you throw at the goal line with Zeke on the field?).

With Philly expected to rest a lot of its starters, this game will be a showcase for the Dallas coaching staff to end the season on a high note and gear up for 2018. The Cowboys are only favored by a field goal at the time of this publication and if they can’t win this matchup, Garrett may join the long line of head coaches looking for employment this offseason.

On the flip side, the Eagles will put their impeccable home record (7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS) on the line and will use this game for some of their backups to get some reps and prep for the postseason. “Rest vs Rust” is always the debate for a 1 seed going into the NFL playoffs and Philly will want to tread carefully on resting too many players as recent history has shown that too much of a break can sabotage playoff performance (ahem ... Indianapolis Colts anyone?).

Starting quarterback Nick Foles also seems like he needs more time working with his wideouts after a shaky performance vs Oakland where he went 19-for-38 passing and only managed one touchdown.

The total opened at 39.5 and while a lot of key players may rest, the OVER should still be considered by bettors. The OVER has hit in 11 of the Eagles’ last 14 games vs NFC East teams and Philly still is the second-highest scoring team in the league (30.4 points per game). Expect a high-scoring affair where players will be looking to get “their numbers” to pay out lucrative contract incentives.
