Fading the Punchless Broncos is Becoming a Profitable Strategy

With the AFC West presumably up for the taking thanks to the recent struggles of the Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders should be in a prime position to make a charge. But both teams have endured their share of struggles lately and are slowly fading out of the playoff picture, meaning their Week 12 matchup puts them in do-or-die mode.

Sportsbook opened the Raiders as 5-point home favorites with a total of 43.

Shark Bites
  • The Broncos are 1-6 SU and ATS in their last seven games as underdog.
  • The Broncos are 10-2 SU and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against the Raiders.
  • The Raiders are 10-4 SU in their last 14 games after a loss.

Denver is currently on a six-game slide and finds itself as a betting underdog for the fifth time in that span. The Broncos have been horrendous for bettors, as they’ve failed to cover the spread in each of those games. Denver hit a new low last week when Andy Dalton tossed three touchdown passes in Cincinnati’s 20-17 win.

Poor quarterback play is the biggest reason for the Broncos’ slide, as Brock Osweiler hasn’t made much of a difference after replacing Trevor Siemian. The Broncos are 18th in passing offense and 15th in rushing while averaging 20.1 points per game – 24th in the NFL. Reports are indicating coach Vance Joseph is going to stick with Osweiler, with Paxton Lynch serving as his backup.

The Raiders are coming off a disappointing loss to the New England Patriots in Mexico City but are clearly in better shape than Denver at this point. The Raiders’ biggest weakness has been on the defensive front, as the unit has allowed at least 24 points in each game over the past month.

The OVER is trending when the Raiders play at home, as seven of Oakland’s last eight home games have gone above the closing total.
