Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers Preview

Lions Look to Bounce Back Against Packers’ Lethal Attack

The Green Bay Packers look for a second consecutive divisional win as they host the Detroit Lions in Week 2. The Packers (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS) picked apart the Minnesota defense in Week 1 and will look to do the same against a Lions team (0-1 SU, 0-1 ATS) that gave up 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter of its Week 1 loss.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The game opened with the Packers as -6.5 favorites and that line has moved down to between -5.5 and -6 depending on the sportsbook. The total opened at 46 but has increased to either 47.5 or 48 depending on where you look.

Detroit News & Notes

The Detroit Lions were in control and cruising to an easy win over the Bears through three quarters of Week 1. They would go on to blow a 21-6 lead, exposing several roster weaknesses in the process.

First-round pick cornerback Jeff Okudah missed the contest with a hamstring injury and starting corners Desmond Trufant and Justin Coleman both left with injuries during the game. This is a situation to monitor closely as Aaron Rodgers is tough to defend at the best of times.

Keep an eye on star receiver Kenny Golladay’s status for Week 2 as well. Golladay missed Week 1 with a hamstring injury and would be a major part of the Lions’ game plan to keep up with the Packers if he can play Sunday.

Green Bay News & Notes

It was a vintage Aaron Rodgers performance Sunday in Minnesota. Rodgers had 364 passing yards and four touchdowns against a usually stout Vikings defense. With the Lions’ top three cornerbacks all dealing with injuries, Rodgers could be in for similar numbers in Week 2.

Davante Adams was the main recipient of Rodgers’ passes in Week 1 as the Pro Bowl receiver absolutely torched the Vikings for 14 receptions, 156 yards and two touchdowns.

The Packers won both meetings between these teams last season but only by a combined four points. The games against Detroit were actually the two closest games of the season for the 13-3 Packers.

Betting Pick: Green Bay -6

After seeing the polished Packers dismantle the Vikings, it is hard not to believe they could do the same to a far worse defense, this time at home. The OVER is also a tempting bet, especially if Golladay can play for Detroit.
