Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Packers opened as 11-point favorites and have settled back in at that number after spending some time at Green Bay -10.5. The total in the NFC North matchup is set at 48 points since Sportsbook at 48.5 points. The OVER is 4-1 in Green Bay’s last five games.

Detroit News & Notes

The Lions trailed the 49ers 31-10 at halftime and 38-10 early in the third quarter before crawling back into the game with some late touchdowns. Detroit cut San Francisco’s lead to 41-25 with a touchdown and two-point conversion with 1:53 left on the clock and scored another touchdown on a 46-second drive to pull within one score.

The offense actually managed to get the ball back again after the defense forced a fumble with 52 seconds left in the game, but San Francisco held on for a 41-33 win.

The late-game comeback attempt did manage to give Detroit backers the backdoor cover as the Lions closed as 9.5-point underdogs. Jared Goff finished his Lions debut with 338 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception, though the majority of that production came when the game was already out of reach.

Green Bay News & Notes

Green Bay was completely dominated in every facet of the game in its 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints last Sunday. The defense gave up 322 total yards and five passing touchdowns. More alarmingly, Aaron Rodgers looked nothing at all like the player who won NFL MVP last season, completing only 15 of 28 passes for 133 passing yards and two interceptions.

All four teams in the NFC North lost in Week 1 and the regular season is 17 games long. There is no reason to hit the panic button on the Packers or Aaron Rodgers just yet. With that said, Sunday’s loss was so ugly on both sides of the ball that there is at least some room for concern. Football fans around the country will be watching to see how the Packers respond in this home game against the lowly Lions in prime time.

Staff Betting Pick: Detroit +11

Aaron Rodgers bouncing back with a masterful performance en route to a Green Bay blowout wouldn’t surprise anyone. Still, laying 11 points in a division rivalry game after a performance like last week’s doesn’t feel like the right move. Look for the Packers to win, but for the Lions to squeak out another ATS cover.
