Monday Night Football Betting Preview: Lions Have Dropped 25 of 26 at Lambeau Field

Life without Aaron Rodgers didn’t exactly start out smoothly for the Green Bay Packers, but the Brett Hundley-led green and gold will have another opportunity to get back on track when they welcome the archrival Detroit Lions to Lambeau Field in the Week 9 edition of Monday Night Football.

Sportsbook opened the Lions as 2.5-point road favorites with a total of 43.

Shark Bites
  • The Packers are 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games at home.
  • The total has gone UNDER in eight of the Lions’ last 10 games on the road.
  • The Packers are 6-1 SU in their last seven games vs divisional opponents.

It’s tough to find many sure things in the NFL these days, but the Lions failing to get the job done in Wisconsin is one. Detroit has only won once at Lambeau Field since 1991, with the sole triumph coming on November 15, 2015. Packers kicker Mason Crosby missed a 52-yard field goal as time expired to give the Lions the win. Including 2015, the Lions are now 1-25 SU in their past 26 in Green Bay.

The Lions did everything they could vs Pittsburgh in Week 8 but still came away with a 20-15 setback on Sunday Night Football. The main reason for the loss was Detroit’s inability to convert in the red zone, as the club failed to score a touchdown on its five trips there. Detroit ran 16 red-zone plays without scoring a touchdown, the most plays run by any team there this season without collecting six points.

That loss was something Lions fans and bettors have gotten used to, as the squad is a measly 3-14 SU in its last 17 night games.

The aforementioned stat regarding Green Bay’s dominance over Detroit is certainly interesting, but this is simply not the same Packers team without Rodgers around. Hundley, a 2015 fifth-round pick, finished an ugly 12-for-25 for 87 yards and an interception in a 26-17 home loss to the Saints in Week 7 – his first NFL start. The Pack will be well-rested coming off the bye, but banking on Hundley to put up solid numbers is a big gamble after his showings against Minnesota and New Orleans.

UNDER bettors will be paying close attention to this one. In the Lions’ last 10 road games, the UNDER is 8-2.
