Hochuli Slated to Work Pats-Broncos

Ed Hochuli NFL

While there is barely any room for more subplots in the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos this weekend, what with Tom Brady vs Peyton Manning set to dominate the narrative for the week, there is one note that will interest sports bettors and it involves referee Ed Hochuli.

According to FootballZebras.com, Hochuli will be assigned Sunday’s game in Denver and if this season’s results are anything to go by, it could be a big day for the underdog. Hochuli worked 16 games this season (his crew had Week 5 off) and the underdog cashed in 12 of those contests. Factor in that two of Hochuli’s assigned games closed as a PICK and dogs performed at an exceptional clip at the betting window.

Here's a look at the results of Ed Hochuli's games during the 2015 regular season:

The trends don't stop there either. According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, the Broncos have gone 7-0 SU in their last seven games with Hochuli as the referee since the 2000 season and 6-0 since the 2008 season. The Pats, on the other hand, have gone 3-4 in seven Hochuli games since 2010.

Also noteworthery, home teams went 11-5 straight up in Hochuli’s games, while going 9-7 ATS in the process. As far as the total is concerned, Hochuli’s games have resulted in a 10-6 OVER/UNDER mark on the season.

At online shop Bovada, the Broncos are currently being offered as 3.5-point home underdogs. To make matters worse for Patriots backers, Hochuli called two Patriots games during the regular season (Week 10 at Giants, Week 17 at Dolphins) with the Pats going 1-1 SU but 0-2 ATS (1-1 O/U).

Now you shouldn’t be solely using ref numbers as your only fuel to risk your hard-earned cash, but looking at the zebras should definitely be part of your weekly NFL capping routine. And with such a disparity between the dogs and faves at the betting window in games which Hochuli's crew has officiated, one has to wonder if that trend will continue Sunday.
