Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Colts are a 9.5-point favorite this Sunday after going off as an underdog in each of their first five games this season. Early bets on the UNDER have pushed the total down to 42.5 points from its Sportsbook line of 43.5 points. Indianapolis is 11-3 SU and 8-6 ATS in its last 14 games as the betting favorite.

Houston News & Notes

The Texans appeared to be on their way to an upset win at home over the New England Patriots last Sunday when they took a 22-9 lead early in the third quarter. But that would prove to be the last time Houston would score as New England put up 16 unanswered points in the second half to hand the Texans a 25-22 loss.

On the bright side for the Texans, this was a huge step in the right direction for rookie quarterback Davis Mills. Mills went only 11-for-21 with 87 passing yards and four interceptions in a 40-0 loss to Buffalo in Week 4, but in Week 5 he went 21-for-29 with 312 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Wideout Chris Moore had a breakout game with five catches for 109 yards and a touchdown in the loss as well.

Indianapolis News & Notes

The Colts blew an even bigger lead than the Texans did last Sunday, Sportsbook up a 22-3 lead on the road against the Baltimore Ravens before eventually getting torched by Lamar Jackson on four straight touchdown drives to lose 31-25 in overtime.

Indianapolis had the chance to win in the closing moments of regulation, but Rodrigo Blankenship missed a 47-yard field-goal try to send the game to overtime. Blankenship is questionable this Sunday with a hip injury.

Carson Wentz recorded 402 passing yards and two passing touchdowns with no interceptions in the loss. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 116 yards and another major. Both could be worthy additions to daily fantasy sports lineups this week facing a Texans defense that ranks 26th in the NFL in total defense, allowing 391.8 yards per game.

Why Houston Will Cover

Bill Belichick and the Patriots are notoriously dominant against rookie quarterbacks, but Davis Mills survived the test with a great game last Sunday. Indianapolis’s defense is allowing 25.6 points per game this season; with 9.5 points to work with, the Texans should be able to score enough to get the cover.

Why Indianapolis Will Cover

Indianapolis is better than its record would indicate. The Colts have had a brutal schedule to start the season and lost by only one score to a pair of 4-1 teams in the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore. Facing a weak team like the Texans could give the Colts another shot to win by double digits like they did in their 27-17 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 4.
