Texans vs Dolphins Picks & Odds: Miami Looks to Stay atop Crowded AFC East

The Miami Dolphins (7-3 SU, 5-5 ATS) will hope the bye week does nothing to slow down the effectiveness of their high-powered offense. The Dolphins have won four in a row and look to extend that streak this week against the Houston Texans (1-8-1, 4-5-1), the worst team in the NFL.

Texans Reeling, First Overall Draft Pick Appears to Be in Their Future

In what has been a dismal season, the Texans may have hit rock bottom last week in a 23-10 loss at home to the Washington Commanders. Davis Mills tossed a pick-six on Houston’s second play and the Texans had only five total yards of offense in the first half, leaving the field at the break trailing 20-0.

After earning their only win of the season against the Jaguars in early October, the Texans have now lost five straight. Mills continues to be ineffective and once opponents take running back Dameon Pierce out of the game, the Texans become extremely one-dimensional – and unproductive.

That’s what happened against the Commanders, who stuffed Pierce, holding the rookie sensation to eight rushing yards on 10 carries. The Texans as a team finished with only 21 rushing yards on their way to an anemic 148 yards of total offense.

Fresh off Bye Week, Dolphins Hope to Keep Hot Offensive Performance Going

Third in passing yards and second in total yards, the Dolphins have put up north of 30 points in three straight games, with the return of Tua Tagovailoa from injury propelling this offense to greatness. Getting the ball out in a timely fashion, the former Alabama standout has been effective in putting it into the hands of star wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

The acquisition of running back Jeff Wilson has added to the attack’s explosiveness. Wilson gained 119 yards on the ground on 17 carries as the Dolphins routed the Cleveland Browns 39-17 before their bye week.

At 7-3, the Dolphins have no room for error. They hold the division lead over Buffalo, also 7-3, thanks to their victory over the Bills in late September and with the Jets and Patriots also not far behind, they must take advantage of opportunities like playing against the Texans.

Texans: Keys to Win

The Texans, who despite their troubles are 4-5-1 ATS, will need to deploy a game plan that relies on stout defense and a sound rush attack. They will have a chance to keep this contest close and cover if they’re able to take care of the ball and effectively use the clock to their advantage.

Dolphins: Keys to Win

Keep Tua protected and upright and the rest should take care of itself. One of the best offenses in the NFL has playmakers all over the field, and if Tua throws the ball as accurately as he has all year, the Dolphins should roll and cover 12 points easily.
