Can a Rookie Quarterback upset the Seahawks?

Since Deshaun Watson took over at quarterback, fortunes may have turned this season for the Houston Texans. The everlasting search for a franchise signal-caller consistently left the Texans falling short in the AFC hierarchy. Fast-forward to Week 8 and with Houston sporting a 3-3 record SU, the high hopes for Watson could come crashing down as he faces his stiffest test yet in Seattle against the Seahawks.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Seattle’s last 6 games.
  • The favored team is 3-0 SU and ATS in the last three games in this matchup.
  • The Texans are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games after a win.

Seattle, coming off a convincing Week 7 win over the hapless New York Giants, sports a 10-1 record SU in its last 11 games at home.  It’s no secret that CenturyLink Field is a nightmare for rookie quarterbacks. The last opposing rookie QB to get a victory in Seattle was Andy Dalton in 2011. Look for this trend to continue as opposing passers are only averaging 200 yards per game throwing the rock against the Seattle secondary this season.

For that reason, the UNDER is an excellent bet to wager on. The total opened at 44.5 points and it may be difficult to trust the Texans’ third-ranked offense to score. The total has gone UNDER in four of Houston’s last six road games and — quick reminder — they’re starting a rookie quarterback in Seattle. The Texans will have to hope returning left tackle Duane Brown will buy Watson some time in the pocket or it could be a long day in Emerald City.

Despite the feared Seattle defense and their 12th man, Houston still has a great chance to cover the spread and opened as 5.5-point dogs. The Texans are 4-1 ATS in their last five games this season and Seattle has never been known as an offensive powerhouse. Throw in a depleted Seahawks offensive line and Seattle may struggle to score against the Texans defense, which will be welcoming back starting cornerback Kevin Johnson.

Houston’s chance to eke out a victory will most likely require them to keep the score close and hope Watson can manufacture some more magic with wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller IV.
