How Will Trubisky Fare In Bears Debut?

It might be five weeks later than some Chicago Bears fans would have liked, but Mitch Trubisky will make his first NFL start against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.

There was no doubt that Trubisky was the quarterback of the future after the Bears gave up plenty of draft capital to move up from third to second to select the UNC signal-caller. That being said, there were plenty of question marks surrounding Trubisky that had many draft pundits thinking it might be in his best interest to basically redshirt.

However, after Mike Glennon continued to stink, John Fox and the rest of the coaching staff were given little choice but to start the rookie.

So the Bears faithful are now wondering what to expect from Trubisky – not just in the long term but in the short term as well. With that in mind, online sportsbook Bovada has posted totals for the Bears’ newest starting QB.

The total for Trubisky’s passing yardage is set at 215.5 (-125/-105) against the Vikings. Minnesota’s secondary isn’t exactly elite, as they are allowing 247 passing yards per game and 7.5 yards per attempt. However, the Vikings front four brings the pressure better than most in the league, which could cause issues for a young QB.

Trubisky also has his total touchdown passes at 1.5 (+150/-180) with interceptions at 1.0 (-155/+125). At UNC, Trubisky was known for being safe and efficient with the football – throwing 30 touchdowns to just six interceptions in his lone season as a starter. Though he relied on diminutive Ryan Switzer to drive the offense up the field at UNC, Trubisky preferred the big-bodied Bug Howard in the red zone for touchdowns. The Bears receiving corps doesn’t exactly offer the same versatility but getting a couple of jump balls for tight end Zach Miller is not out of the question.
