Chargers Have Beaten Jaguars in 7 of Last 8 Meetings

Since Justin Herbert has taken over the starting role in Los Angeles, the Chargers are 3-1 ATS despite going 0-4 SU over that stretch. Herbert will have his best chance yet to earn his first NFL win Sunday when the Chargers host the reeling Jaguars. LA is 7-1 SU and 8-0 ATS in its last eight matchups with Jacksonville.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Bettors are rolling with the Chargers in this matchup, betting Los Angeles up to a -7.5 favorite after they opened at -7 earlier in the week. Early action on the UNDER has moved the total from 51.5 points all the way down to 49.5 points.

Jacksonville News & Notes

The Jaguars opened the 2020 season with a 27-20 upset of the Indianapolis Colts as 7-point underdogs and followed that up with another strong effort as 7-point dogs in a 33-30 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

It looked as though Jacksonville might be a scrappy underdog this season, but the last four weeks have told a different tale. The Jaguars are 0-4 ATS over their last four games, averaging only 17 points per game on offense while allowing 32 points per game.

And this recent slump hasn’t come against world-beaters. The Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and Detroit Lions have a combined record of 7-15 SU, with both Cincinnati and Houston picking up their only wins of the season against the Jaguars. Jacksonville’s scrappiness has given way to what has amounted to an easy win for the opposition.

Los Angeles News & Notes

Justin Herbert has shaken off any concerns about his lack of NFL readiness with an outstanding statistical start to his NFL career. Herbert has recorded 1,195 passing yards, nine passing touchdowns, a 68.8 percent completion rate and a 107.1 passer rating through his first four games while throwing only three interceptions. In a 30-27 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints, Herbert threw four touchdown strikes with no interceptions.

The only thing missing from his strong start is a win. The Chargers have lost their last four games by an average of only 4.5 points, including two overtime losses. Facing the struggling Jaguars and entering Sunday’s game off a bye week, Herbert and the Chargers have an excellent chance to break out of their losing streak.

Betting Pick: Los Angeles -7.5

It feels uncomfortable laying 7.5 points on a 1-4 SU team, but the Chargers have been competitive against legitimate contenders, including the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At home against this Jaguars squad, Los Angeles should be the next team to hand Jacksonville a double-digit loss.
