Kansas City News & Notes

Kansas City’s offense has often been compared to one you might see in a video game, and that’s what it looked like in last Sunday’s 33-29 win against the Cleveland Browns. Patrick Mahomes went 27-for-36 with 337 passing yards and three passing touchdowns, targeting Tyreek Hill or Travis Kelce on 22 of those 36 pass attempts. Hill caught 11 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown and Kelce had six catches for 76 yards and two scores.

On the one hand, the Chiefs want to do a better job of spreading the ball around and being less predictable on offense. On the other hand, if it isn’t broke, why fix it? Hill and Kelce have been dominant forces in Kansas City’s offense with Mahomes under center and that isn’t likely to change any time soon. Kansas City trailed 22-10 at the half, but no lead is safe against this group.

Baltimore News & Notes

The Ravens were a part of a wild one on Monday night against the Las Vegas Raiders. Baltimore never trailed until allowing the game-deciding touchdown in overtime, capping off a crazy sequence in which the Ravens made a successful goal-line stand with an interception only to lose the ball moments later on a sack-fumble. That allowed the Raiders to cash in on a touchdown pass to win the game 33-27.

Baltimore’s defense allowed 435 passing yards in the loss, including 10 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown by Raiders tight end Darren Waller. This defensive performance didn’t spark a lot of confidence ahead of a meeting with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, the best tight end in the league. Last season, the Ravens ranked sixth-best in the NFL in passing defense, allowing only 221 passing yards per game.

Staff Betting Pick: Kansas City -3.5

The Chiefs have defeated Lamar Jackson and the Ravens for three straight years, most recently beating them by two touchdowns last season. This year’s game will likely be closer than that one was but look for the same result in a win and cover for Kansas City.
