Two months ago, the Kansas City Chiefs were one of the top picks to win the Super Bowl at 5-0 SU, including wins against the Patriots and Eagles. Fast-forward to Week 13 and after dropping five of their last six games, the Chiefs are on high alert to miss the playoffs and are 6-5 SU this season. Kansas City opened as a 3.5-point favorite vs the New York Jets, who have also lost five of their last six.
It’s almost hard to believe Alex Smith was the leader for MVP after five weeks. The Chiefs, at the time, were 5-0 ATS and averaging a whopping 32.8 points per game. Now, Smith has regressed so much that Andy Reid had to clarify to reporters that he’s still the starter (a legitimate question) over first-round draft pick Patrick Mahomes III. But while Smith is getting the scapegoat label, it’s the Chiefs defense that has hung them out to dry. The defense ranks 27th in passing yards allowed and 28th in rushing yards allowed. This may be the week where they snap out of their funk but they already dropped a doozy at MetLife Stadium to the Giants in Week 11 so it may be best to fade them for the time being.
The J-E-T-S were bettors’ secret weapon for a good chunk of the season when they went 6-0-1 ATS from Week 3 to Week 9. Head coach Todd Bowles has done as good a job as he can to keep this squad motivated despite the talent discrepancy. Although they’re 1-5 SU and 3-2-1 ATS in their last six games, they’ve remained competitive and haven’t lost a game by more than seven points since their Week 2 loss to the Raiders.
The total opened at 43.5 and bettors should take a hard look at the UNDER. The Chiefs offense has been horrendous in the last six games, averaging only 18 points. They’ve also only scored one touchdown in their past 28 drives and while they may eke out the victory, don’t expect the Chiefs to be the dominant offense that they were to start the season.
