Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The chalk on Kansas City hasn’t slowed down bettors from jumping on the Chiefs and bumping this line up from its opener at Kansas City -7.5 to Kansas City -8.5. The total has seen even more significant movement, bet down to 47.5 points from its Sportsbook spot at 50.5 points. The Chiefs closed as 5.5-point favorites in a 24-17 road win over Los Angeles last season.

Kansas City News & Notes

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs picked up Thursday night right where they left off from their Super Bowl campaign in 2019. Mahomes made his dominance look effortless as he often does, going 24-for-32 with 211 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire fit right into Andy Reid’s offense with 138 rushing yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

With Thursday’s win, the Chiefs are now 10-0 SU and ATS over their last 10 games. They’ve won those 10 games by an average of 15.4 points. As long as Mahomes is healthy, this well-oiled machine is going to be difficult for any team to stop in 2020 and beyond.

Los Angeles News & Notes

The Chargers finished the 2019 season ranked sixth in the NFL in total defense, allowing only 313.1 total yards per game. Los Angeles’s defense looks to be well on its way to another strong season coming off a dominant performance against the Cincinnati Bengals, holding Joe Burrow to just 193 passing yards in a 16-13 season-Sportsbook win.

Former quarterback Philip Rivers and running back Melvin Gordon III both left Los Angeles in free agency in the offseason. The Chargers did nothing to stop them from leaving and replaced them in-house with former backups Tyrod Taylor and Austin Ekeler rather than making their own splash in free agency.

Los Angeles is counting on its defense to improve on last year’s 5-11 SU and 4-11-1 record; that unit will certainly be put to the test on Sunday.

Betting Pick: Kansas City -8.5

This Chargers defense is good enough to slow down the high-powered Chiefs offense. But without the offensive firepower to keep up, Los Angeles will eventually find itself getting left behind on the wrong end of another double-digit Kansas City win.
