Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The betting line has remained steady on this matchup since the Chiefs opened as 6.5-point favorites at home. Bettors have leaned toward the OVER in the early part of the week to bump the total up to 55.5 since it opened at 54.5 points. The OVER is 4-1 in Kansas City’s last five home games against the Chargers.

Los Angeles News & Notes

Justin Herbert recorded his 10th career 300-yard game with 338 passing yards and a touchdown pass last Sunday, but he also threw two interceptions in Los Angeles’s 20-17 loss at home to the Dallas Cowboys.

Herbert was intercepted in the end zone late in the third quarter when Keenan Allen slipped on his route just three plays after the Chargers had a touchdown pass nullified by a holding call.

Los Angeles was 5-0 SU and ATS over its previous five games, including a road win over Washington in Week 1, before the loss to Dallas. The Chargers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 38-21 win against the Chiefs when these two teams last met in January, though the Chiefs were resting their starters in that one.

Kansas City News & Notes

The Chiefs took a 21-17 lead into the half and extended that lead to 35-24 in the third quarter of their matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night. That lead would not hold up as Lamar Jackson led the Ravens on two touchdown drives down the stretch to secure a 36-35 upset win over the Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes finished the day with 343 passing yards and three touchdowns and Travis Kelce led the receiving corps with seven catches for 109 yards and a score.

While the offense should continue to produce at an elite level for as long as Mahomes is healthy, Kansas City’s defense is looking like it could be a concern in 2021. The Chiefs have been torched for 469 yards and 32.5 points per game through their first two games.

Staff Betting Pick: Los Angeles +6.5

Kansas City’s last eight wins have come by six points or less. Until the Chiefs start doing a better job of slowing down their opponents, their games will likely keep coming down to the last possession. The Chargers are certainly good enough to keep it close.
