Rams vs 49ers Sportsbook Odds

San Francisco is getting some early support from bettors who have moved the point spread up as high as -2.5 at some books so far. The total has also dropped drastically from the opener of 48, down to 42 already, with several betting trends favoring the UNDER.

The UNDER is 7-0 for the hosts in their last seven games as favorites and 6-0 in their past six overall, and the visitors have a 6-1 run below the total going based on their previous seven prime-time games. This has all the makings of a defensive battle.

Los Angeles Coming Off Strong Defensive Effort At Arizona

The Rams were not at their best offensively in last week’s 20-12 win over the Arizona Cardinals, but their defense was as they thwarted any potential comeback bid by opposing quarterback Kyler Murray.

Los Angeles kept Murray out of the end zone despite his 58 pass attempts and 37 completions for 314 yards. He carried the ball only twice for eight yards and was sacked twice for 19, which was a far cry from his performance vs the Las Vegas Raiders the previous week.

Now Los Angeles gets to face San Francisco’s Jimmy Garoppolo, who is coming off a shaky outing at Denver in which he stepped out of bounds for a safety that ended up being the difference between a win and a loss.

San Francisco’s Offense Sputters In Garoppolo’s First Start

Garoppolo just played against one of the NFL’s best defenses in the Broncos and will have little time to recover after making his first start of 2022.

With Trey Lance out for the season with an ankle injury, the 49ers cannot expect to get the same kind of mobility from the quarterback position, although you can definitely argue they are getting a better passer at this point with a lot more experience.

Garoppolo beat the Rams twice during the regular season a year ago before falling to them in the NFC championship game, so he has enjoyed some recent success against this particular opponent.

That said, he will likely need to be more mobile and use his legs this week, especially with left tackle Trent Williams suffering from a high-ankle sprain that will keep him out the next few games.

Rams: Keys To Victory

The Los Angeles pass rush will need to be a difference-maker in order to cover the spread and win this game. Garoppolo is certainly prone to mistakes and was picked off three times in the three meetings last season.

Without Williams around to protect his blind side, Garoppolo will face extra pressure to make plays, and the Rams can take advantage and force him into more turnovers. If they can win the turnover battle, they can win this one.

49ers: Keys To Victory

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan has figured out ways to attack the Los Angeles defense and has several playmakers who can step up, most notably wide receiver/running back Deebo Samuel.

The versatile Samuel has more carries (17) than catches (12) so far this season, but he has only hit pay dirt once (last week at Denver). Expect that to change soon, as he scored four times in the three meetings last year. Deebo is so dangerous and has yet to break out – this could be his coming-out party.
