  • The San Francisco 49ers have spent a significant amount of time on top of the NFC West in their illustrious history, but there’s a new king in town in the division: the Los Angeles Rams. The rivals will do battle in Week 7 in California, where the 49ers opened as 10-point home underdogs with a total of 52.5.

    • The Rams are 1-3 ATS in their last four games on the road.
    • The total has gone OVER in eight of the Rams’ last 11 games on the road (avg. combined score: 53.45).

    Rams continue to dominate the ground game

    The Rams sit as the lone undefeated team in the NFL at 6-0 SU and have a fairly easy schedule down the remaining stretch of the season. This game was initially slated to be played in Sunday Night Football but was flexed out in favor of Cincinnati-Kansas City. The obvious reason for that move is the season-ending injury to 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

    L.A. barely got by the Denver Broncos in Week 6 but came away from the Mile High City with a 23-20 victory. Todd Gurley had a banner day in the form of 208 rushing yards, becoming the first Ram to rush for 200 yards in a game since Marshall Faulk did it in 2001. In total, L.A. had 270 yards on the ground compared to Jared Goff’s 174 yards through the air – the fourth time since 2016 that Gurley and the Rams have had more rushing yards than passing yards in a game.

    The 49ers weren’t able to pull off the upset as big underdogs against the Packers in Week 6, falling to Green Bay 33-30 on the frozen tundra. C.J. Beathard, who passed for 245 yards and two long touchdowns in the game, was great until he threw an ill-advised interception to Kevin King with 1:07 left. Regardless, it was a great showing for the injury-plagued 49ers, and they could be an appealing underdog pick for the time being as a result.

    Rams looking to buck a concerning trend vs the 49ers

    Surprisingly, the Rams are only 1-4 SU and 0-5 ATS in their past five meetings with San Francisco. L.A. is also 1-3 ATS in its past four games on the road but has been a rock-solid wager in one regard when playing away from home – going OVER totals. In the Rams’ previous 11 road tilts, the OVER is 8-3 with an average combined score of 54 points. The OVER is also 3-0 in the last three clashes between the NFC West rivals with an average combined score of 57 points.

    My pick: take the OVER

    While the Rams’ passing game was non-existent last week, I’m not expecting Goff to stumble for two games in a row. Los Angeles’ offensive dominance speaks for itself at this point and the 49ers are proving they can light up scoreboards on their own, even without their starting quarterback and running back in the fold. The -10 number is simply too high for me to back the Rams on the road, so take the OVER in this one.
