Tampa Bay’s Offense Gets Tough Test vs Los Angeles Defense

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers snapped out of a 0-5 SU and ATS losing streak against the Los Angeles Rams last season with a wild 55-40 win in Los Angeles. The Buccaneers will try to pick up another win over the Rams on Monday Night Football while the Los Angeles defense will be looking for redemption after last year’s disappointing showing.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Buccaneers opened as a 3-point favorite at home and have received most of the early betting action, pushing the line up to Tampa Bay -3.5. Bettors don’t anticipate a repeat of last year’s high-scoring affair, leaning toward the UNDER 49 points to move the total down to 47.5 points. The UNDER is 5-1 in Los Angeles’s last six road games in Tampa Bay.

Los Angeles News & Notes

The Rams defense did a fantastic job containing Russell Wilson in Los Angeles’s 23-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks last week. Los Angeles held Wilson to just 248 passing yards and 60 rushing yards with no touchdown passes and two interceptions. He hadn’t thrown fewer than two touchdown passes in any of Seattle’s previous eight games this season.

Los Angeles now ranks second-best in the NFL in both total defense, allowing 296.4 yards per game, and in scoring defense, allowing 18.7 points per game. The Rams look like a legitimate playoff contender at 6-3 SU and 5-4 ATS after missing the postseason last year. Another strong defensive showing against Tampa Bay’s high-powered offense would only solidify the Rams’ reputation as a squad that opposing teams will not want to face in the playoffs.

Tampa Bay News & Notes

After an uncharacteristically terrible game in a 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints, the Buccaneers bounced back last Sunday with a 46-23 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Tom Brady racked up 341 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and one rushing score while Ronald Jones II torched the Panthers defense for 192 rushing yards and a touchdown. Tampa Bay has an embarrassment of riches in the passing game with Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski all at Brady’s disposal.

For whatever reason, New Orleans just has Tampa Bay’s number. The Buccaneers are 0-2 SU and ATS in two games against the Saints, scoring 13 points per game and allowing 36 points per game in those two contests. Against everyone else in 2020, Tampa Bay is 7-1 SU and 5-3 ATS, averaging 33.75 points per game and allowing only 19.3 per game.

Betting Pick: UNDER 47.5 points

Both of these teams have strong defenses. And while a shootout isn’t out of the question between Jared Goff and Tom Brady, it seems more likely that both teams settle into a competitive showdown that ends up landing UNDER the posted total.
