  • One of the lowest totals on this week’s slate sees the Los Angeles Chargers travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers. The Bucs (2-1 SU, 2-1 ATS) sport one of the league’s top defenses and should be licking their chops to take on rookie quarterback Justin Herbert and the Chargers (1-2 SU, 1-1-1 ATS).

    Sportsbook Odds Analysis

    This game opened with the Buccaneers as favorites at -6.5 and that line has moved up a full point to -7.5 as money comes in on Tampa. The total opened at 45.5 and has settled at 45 pretty much across the board – one of the lowest totals of the week.

    Los Angeles News & Notes

    Rookie QB Justin Herbert looks to be the likely starter for a third straight week as incumbent Tyrod Taylor recovers from a punctured lung. Herbert was good in his first two NFL games, posting a respectable 64.7 QBR.

    Now, he travels across the country to face one of the best defenses in the league in Tampa and could be without a couple of key players. Star right tackle Bryan Bulaga and wide receiver Mike Williams were both injured in Week 3 and their status should be monitored throughout the week.

    Chargers running backs, particularly rookie Joshua Kelley, can be avoided in DFS and fantasy against Tampa’s stout run defense, which ranked first in the league last season and has allowed the third-fewest yards on the ground this year.

    Tampa Bay News & Notes

    The Tom Brady experiment has not been perfect through three weeks, but the Bucs have played well enough to take their foot off the gas two straight weeks in the fourth quarter.

    However, the Bucs’ offensive depth will be tested this week as star receiver Chris Godwin and deep threat Scotty Miller are both dealing with hamstring injuries and should be considered doubtful. Look for Mike Evans to receive a heavy workload if his co-star can’t suit up.

    Lost in the Brady-Gronk mania is a defense that has quietly ascended to one of the league’s best. The Bucs have allowed the fourth-fewest yards per game, are tied for second in the league in takeaways (6) and are allowing just 4.7 yards per play – the second-lowest mark in the league.

    Betting Pick: Buccaneers -7.5

    The UNDER also looks like a solid bet for this game, but ultimately we just do not see rookie quarterback Justin Herbert moving the ball very easily or scoring many points on the road against a top defense.
