Betting Preview: Miami Dolphins vs Indianapolis Colts

Dolphins Looking for Second Straight Victory Against Banged-Up Colts on the Road

The Miami Dolphins (1-7) silenced their critics by pulling off an upset win over the New York Jets as 3.5-point home underdogs last Sunday. Now the Dolphins will attempt to put together a two-game winning streak Sunday as double-digit road dogs vs the Colts (5-3), who may be without starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett due to a sprained knee suffered last week.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Brissett’s injury has definitely impacted the point spread in early betting action, with the line moving down 5 points so far. The total has headed the other way at some sportsbooks, though, hitting 44.5 despite the fact that scoring could be more difficult for the Colts.

Miami News & Notes

The theory that Miami is tanking so the team can go winless and get the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has gone by the wayside – at least for a week. The Dolphins remain arguably the league’s worst team, although a case can be made for the Jets after an embarrassing head-to-head loss.

The good news for Miami backers is Indianapolis has already lost at home to the Oakland Raiders and failed to cover the spread in two straight against the Pittsburgh Steelers (a 26-24 loss last week) and Denver Broncos (a 15-13 home victory on October 27).

The Colts were 6-point favorites vs the Broncos and were lucky to win that one, so there is hope for a similar performance, especially if backup quarterback Brian Hoyer gets the start.

Indianapolis News & Notes

Hoyer has a ton of experience and talent around him along with the home crowd behind him. So if he does get the nod over Brissett, Indianapolis will not be just sending out some scrub who is making his first start. That said, Hoyer is a journeyman who has not been able to keep a starting job over the years, which is a concern if Brissett must sit out multiple games.

The Colts will likely rely on their defense and running back regardless of the quarterback situation, with those two factors probably being more than enough to defeat a weak opponent in this spot.

Miami is surrendering 150.8 rushing yards per game, ranking second-to-last in the NFL. In other words, look for Indianapolis running back Marlon Mack to have a monster game.

Betting Pick: UNDER 44.5

The UNDER is 5-2 in the last seven games for the Dolphins, who are still offensively challenged and will be facing a solid defense on the road. Indy will win this game with D.
