Betting Preview: Minnesota Vikings vs Green Bay Packers

The Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers both won in Week 1, but did so very differently. Minnesota was convincing and strong, while Green Bay squeaked by. They match up in Week 2, both looking to establish themselves as true contenders, with a tight contest expected.

Minnesota Vikings vs Green Bay Packers (Matchup Report)

Date/Time: September 15, 1 p.m. ET

TV Coverage: FOX

Opening Odds: Green Bay -3 | O/U 45.5 (Line History)

Opening Odds Analysis

The spread started at -3 in favor of the home Packers, in part to them welcoming a dome team in Minnesota. Bettors haven’t swayed one way or the other, as neither the spread nor the line has shifted yet.

Minnesota News & Notes

The Vikings said they were committed to winning via the ground game, and they didn’t deviate from that plan in Week 1. In their win over Atlanta, Minnesota rushed the ball 38 times, totaling 172 yards, and only attempted 10 passes all game.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins completed eight of those passes and threw a touchdown, but the star was third-year back Dalvin Cook, who ripped off 111 yards and two scores.

The defense was equally dominant, forcing three turnovers and yielding just 73 rushing yards as they cruised to finish off a game they led 28-0 in the fourth quarter.

Minnesota has seen the UNDER hit in six of its last seven games. If stout defense and strong running remains the Vikings’ calling card, expect that to continue.

Green Bay News & Notes

The Packers knew it was going to be a tough game against the Bears in Chicago, but boy, their Week 1 win was a plodding experience.

Neither team accumulated 255 total yards, they combined for 93 rushing yards, and future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw for just 203 yards.

It’s difficult to attribute the game to phenomenal defenses or rusty, inept offenses, but we can’t argue that it’s a trend with the Packers. Despite the new coach in Matt LaFleur, the total has gone UNDER in eight of Green Bay’s last 11 games.

Betting Pick

Both teams have been playing low-scoring games lately, and a divisional matchup doesn’t scream points. I’m taking UNDER 45.5.
