MNF Betting Preview: It’s Trubisky Time in the Windy City

It’s been quite some time since fans of the Chicago Bears have been excited about a quarterback, but as a result of Mike Glennon going full Mike Glennon through the first four weeks of the season, rookie signal-caller Mitchell Trubisky will make his first career start under the bright lights of Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings.

MyBookie opened the Bears as 3-point home underdogs for the contest.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone UNDER in nine of the Bears’ last 12 games as home underdogs.
  • The Vikings are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in October.
  • The Vikings are 1-8 SU and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games on the road against the Bears.

After signing a surprisingly lucrative deal in the offseason, Glennon simply wasn’t panning out for the Bears. The journeyman ranked as one of the lowest-rated quarterbacks in the league in 2017 while turning the ball over four times in an embarrassing 35-14 loss to Green Bay in the Week 4 edition of Thursday Night Football.

Simply put, no one is quite sure what to expect from Trubisky. Rookie QBs don’t exactly have the best track record in the NFL, but the North Carolina product could be in great company if he can lead his team to a win. Trubisky will be the fourth QB to make his first career start on Monday Night Football, joining Jim Harbaugh in 1988, Philip Rivers in 2006 and Aaron Rodgers in 2008. Of those three, Harbaugh was the only man to suffer a loss.

The Bears aren’t going to be a contender this year and have some exciting young weapons on offense in the form of the two-headed running back monster of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen, so it makes sense for Chicago to see what they’ve got in the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

The NFC North has been hit hard by injuries so far, and the Vikings are no exception. Minnesota lost star rookie running back Dalvin Cook for the season last week after he suffered a torn ACL, leaving the starting duties to ex-Oakland Raider Latavius Murray.

Sam Bradford hasn’t played since putting on a show in Week 1, and longtime backup Case Keenum is looking like exactly that so far: a backup. Keenum has produced one fantastic game and two stinkers, the latter coming in the form of a 14-7 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 4.

Minnesota and Chicago have had very different outcomes when playing on Monday Night Football in recent years. The Vikes are an ugly 2-8 ATS in their previous 10 MNF appearances, while the Bears are 5-2 ATS in their last seven prime-time Monday affairs.
