New England News & Notes

The Patriots would love to play the New York Jets every Sunday. With a 54-13 win at home over the Jets in Week 7, New England improved to 3-0 SU and ATS over its last three games against the Jets. Against every other team in the NFL, the Patriots are 1-7 SU and ATS since December 10, 2020.

Mac Jones enjoyed the best start of his career in the win against the Jets, going 24-for-36 for a career-high 307 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Jones has now thrown four touchdown passes with only one interception in his last two games since recording a 5-to-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio in his first five NFL starts. Damien Harris had his second straight 100-yard rushing game with 106 yards and two scores as well.

Los Angeles News & Notes

In what many were expecting to be an exciting and competitive game between two of the AFC’s best teams, the Chargers laid an egg against the Baltimore Ravens.

Los Angeles couldn’t get anything going offensively in the 34-6 blowout loss as Justin Herbert had just 195 passing yards and the team as a whole managed to gain only 26 rushing yards. The loss snapped an 8-1 SU and ATS streak that began last year after Los Angeles suffered a 45-0 blowout loss at the hands of the Patriots.

Herbert was held to only 209 passing yards and two interceptions in the loss to New England last season. That game marks the only time in Herbert’s young career that he didn’t record at least one touchdown pass. Will the second-year quarterback be able to solve Bill Belichick’s defense this time around?

How New England Will Cover

New England has been competitive in all but one of its four losses this season, losing in overtime to Dallas, by two points to Tampa Bay and by one point to Miami. With Mac Jones playing well and Belichick’s history of success against the Chargers, a competitive game leading to a cover shouldn’t surprise anyone.

How Los Angeles Will Cover

The Chargers have had a bye week to prepare Justin Herbert for New England’s defense and their defense for a rookie quarterback. Los Angeles should be hungry to bounce back from its ugly loss against Baltimore with a strong performance Sunday.
