Indianapolis Looks To End Recent Struggles Vs New York

The Indianapolis Colts have played the New York Jets five times since 2011 and are 1-4 SU and ATS over that stretch. The Colts will try to end their recent woes against a Jets team that has lost each of its first two games in 2020 by double digits.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Colts opened as 7-point favorites at home in this matchup, but the Jets’ injury concerns and early betting action on the Colts has driven this line all the way up to Indianapolis -10.5. The total has also dropped a point from its opener of 45 down to 44 points. Indianapolis is 6-1 SU and 4-3 ATS in its last seven games as a double-digit favorite.

New York News & Notes

After a 1-7 SU and 2-6 ATS start in 2019, the Jets bounced back to finish the second half of the season with a 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS run, building up hope for a stronger campaign in 2020.

But the momentum of those late-season wins has not carried into a hot start in 2020 as the Jets are off to a 0-2 SU and ATS start after suffering back-to-back double-digit losses to the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers.

Le’Veon Bell is on the shelf with a hamstring injury. Wide receivers Chris Hogan, Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman are all listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with injuries. That doesn’t bode well for an offense that has averaged only 17 points per game in 18 games under head coach Adam Gase, who was brought in specifically to get more out of the offense.

Indianapolis News & Notes

Indianapolis bounced back from a disappointing 27-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in their season opener with a 28-11 win at home over the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday.

Philip Rivers played well, going 19-for-25 with 214 passing yards and a passing touchdown, but it was a dominant defense and a strong rushing performance from rookie Jonathan Taylor (26 carries, 101 yards, TD) that sealed the win. The Colts held Minnesota to just 175 total yards and had three interceptions against Kirk Cousins.

The AFC South is going to be a tough division to break through this season. The Tennessee Titans look good at 2-0, the Jacksonville Jaguars look much more competitive than they were projected to be in 2020, and the Houston Texans should bounce back from a tough starting schedule against the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. The Colts need to take advantage of soft games on the schedule like this one.

Betting Pick: UNDER 44

The Jets look lost on offense under Adam Gase. Turning things around while riddled with injuries and facing the stout Colts defense doesn’t seem likely. Indianapolis should be happy to control the tempo with its running game in this one to grind out a low-scoring win.
