Texans Going For Two-Game Win Streak at Home vs Jets

Tyrod Taylor and the Texans are favored in Jets-Texans betting odds to win their second straight game.

The Houston Texans (2-8 SU, 5-5 ATS) will attempt to win consecutive games for the first time this season when they host the New York Jets (2-8, 2-8) on Sunday as small home favorites at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. The Texans are coming off a 22-13 upset win over the Tennessee Titans last week as 10-point road underdogs, ending an eight-game skid since they won their season opener.

Opening Odds Analysis

There has been a little early support for the visiting Jets despite the fact that they have dropped three games in a row and five of six both SU and ATS following a 24-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday as 4-point home underdogs.

The point spread is down slightly to -2.5 while the total has also fallen to 43.5, with the offense of each team far from explosive. New York has scored 17 points in two straight games, and Houston has maxed out at 22 in its last nine, hitting that exact number three times during that stretch.

New York News & Notes

The Jets have barely been competitive since they upset the Cincinnati Bengals as 11.5-point home underdogs in Week 8. They have given up an average of 38 points in losing their last three, with the OVER on a 6-1 run in their past seven.

On a positive note, rookie quarterback Zach Wilson (knee) will return under center for the first time since Week 7. On a negative note, though, the team will be without leading rusher Michael Carter (430 yards and four touchdowns on the ground) for a couple of weeks due to a low-grade ankle sprain suffered vs Miami.

Veteran running back Tevin Coleman should get more carries in place of Carter, giving the offense a boost of experience. In addition, Josh Johnson will back up Wilson with Joe Flacco and Mike White on the COVID-19 list.

Houston News & Notes

There is no doubt that quarterback Tyrod Taylor gives the Texans a chance to cover the spread almost every time he steps on the field.

Taylor may not win a lot of games, but he always seems to keep his team competitive, as Houston is 2-2 SU and 3-1 ATS in his four starts this year. This will be his first start at home since a 37-21 season-opening rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars as 3.5-point underdogs back on September 12.

His passing numbers are not flashy (14-for-24 for 107 yards at Tennessee), but he did rush six times for 28 yards – including Houston’s two touchdowns – and was not sacked due to his mobility. He has no picks in three of his four games as well.

How New York Will Cover

New York’s best chance to cover is to air the ball out and try to turn this into a shootout. The team’s two wins this year both required at least two passing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and Wilson will have a chance to shine against an opponent with the same record.

How Houston Will Cover

The Texans do not need to be fancy to pick up another win here, they just need to play mistake-free football and let Taylor do his thing. The Jets are not much of an offensive threat, especially with Wilson under center and Carter out, so a win should lead to a cover.
