Zach Wilson is expected to make his return in Jets vs Steelers picks and odds

Jets vs Steelers Picks & Odds: Two Sluggish Offenses Look To Get Right In Steeltown

All eyes will be on the quarterback position this week as the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2 SU, 1-1-1 ATS) prepare to host the New York Jets (1-2, 1-2) in Week 4 action. Zach Wilson, the former second overall selection, is expected back for the Jets after suffering a preseason injury and missing the first three games. With Wilson’s return, the Jets will hope to improve to 2-2, as will the Steelers with Mitch Trubisky at the helm – at least for now.

Jets vs Steelers Sportsbook Odds

After drifting to Steelers -4, it appears this line has settled on -3.5 as more information rolls in regarding Zach Wilson’s status. While he is a quarterback of interest in this matchup, so is Steelers rookie Kenny Pickett as Pittsburgh fans clamor to see the 2022 first-round selection in lieu of veteran Mitch Trubisky, who has garnered a 1-2 record through three weeks.

Can The Return Of Zach Wilson Get New York Offense Back On Track?

After a dramatic victory on the road in Cleveland, the Jets were unable to capitalize on that momentum at home against Cincinnati, losing 27-12 to the Bengals. They’ll complete their run through the AFC North this week against the Steelers.

The Jets were only able to put up 12 points against the Bengals as Joe Flacco struggled and the run game was of little help. Flacco threw the ball 52 times, connecting on 28 passes for 285 yards and two interceptions. The turnovers were backbreakers for the Jets, who had no room for mistakes.

On the ground, Breece Hall continues to get an uptick in his workload as he carried the rock eight times for 39 yards. Michael Carter added 39 yards of his own on 11 carries. Rookie wideout Garrett Wilson continued to impress as one of the few bright spots in this Jets offense, catching six passes for 60 yards.

The Steelers defense has been susceptible to giving up the big run, which was evident in their Thursday night loss to the Browns. If the Jets are able to get Hall and Carter going, they could make life easy for Zach Wilson and the Wilson-to-Wilson connection.

Can Mitch Trubisky Save His Job Or Will A New Quarterback Emerge For The Steelers?

The Pittsburgh offense has been stagnant, and the 29-17 loss to Cleveland on Thursday night put it on full display for the entire football-watching public. Mitch Trubisky threw the ball 32 times, completing 20 passes for 207 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. While he didn’t necessarily do anything wrong, Trubisky needs to be more than a game manager against the Jets if he wants to remain QB1.

Najee Harris was bottled up rather effectively by the Browns as he carried the ball 15 times for 56 yards and a touchdown. Through the air, Diontae Johnson was the star of the show with eight catches for 84 yards while rookie George Pickens made arguably the catch of the season.

The defense has struggled without reigning Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt. Pittsburgh sacked Browns QB Jacoby Brissett only twice, and that inability to create pressure in the backfield has left the secondary open to the big play. Amari Cooper gashed the Steelers secondary for 101 receiving yards and Nick Chubb ran for 113 yards – the Steelers D will need to improve if they are to climb back to .500.

Jets: Keys To Victory

The Jets need to protect Zach Wilson and establish the run if they are to cover the 3.5 spread and possibly steal a road victory. The Steelers defense has not been as strong as in years past and should offer a nice return spot for Wilson. If they can do that, the Jets are set up to be 2-2 through the first four weeks.

Steelers: Keys To Victory

Trubisky will have to improve – if not, Pickett will surely get the call. If that happens, there will be no going back for head coach Mike Tomlin for the remainder of the season. While the offense has been slow, the defensive front will have to get to the Jets’ signal-caller early and often to set the tone for the game.
