NFL Betting Odds: Week 4 Line Moves

The New York Jets, a team ridiculed in the offseason, are now attracting a lot of betting love.

Heading into Sunday’s game at the Tennessee Titans, the Jets are 3-0 against the spread and have won two in a row straight-up. Rookie quarterback Geno Smith has been better than expected, and coach Rex Ryan has assembled a stout defense that has emerged as one of the best in the league early in the season.

The Titans have been kind to bettors as well, going 2-0-1 against the number and are the favorites over the Jets. But that line has been shrinking.

The Titans opened as high as 6.5-point favorites, but money has come in on the Jets, cutting the line down to four as of Friday morning at Bovada.

A change at quarterback keyed another significant NFL line move this week, with Tampa Bay going from a 3-point favorite down all the way to -1.5 at 5Dimes against the visiting Arizona Cardinals. Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano has elected to bench ineffective starter Josh Freeman in favor of rookie Mike Glennon. Glennon is a prototypical pocket-passer with a big arm, but he’ll be making his first career NFL start against a talented but banged-up Arizona defense.

The Cardinals are depleted at linebacker, after two starters and one back went down in last week’s loss at New Orleans. Expect Schiano to test that linebacking corps with a steady diet of running back Doug Martin. If the Bucs can get the ground game going, it would take a lot of pressure off Glennon. But that’s a big if against an Arizona defense that surrendered next to nothing on the ground to the Saints.

There also was noticeable line movement in the battle of winless teams, as the Pittsburgh Steelers are now 2-point favorites over the Vikings. The game opened at a pick ‘em, but the Steelers were giving as many as three points at TopBet as of Friday.
