NFL Draft: Who Will Be Third Overall Pick?

The Chicago Bears own the third overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft and what they do with it is anyone’s guess. Despite finishing in the middle of the pack in both offensive and defensive yardage last season, the Bears couldn’t score and couldn’t stop other teams from scoring.

However, they spent basically their entire free agency trying to fix the offensive side of the ball. I have my doubts that Mike Glennon is going to be some revelation at quarterback, but the Bears spent the money. With that focus in free agency, it is safe to assume that the Bears may lean defense with their top pick in the draft.

Good luck guessing who that will be, though. Jonathan Allen, Malik Hooker and Jamal Adams all opened at +350 to go third overall but Solomon Thomas (+500) and Marshon Lattimore (+600) are close behind.

Chicago has spent a lot of picks in recent history on defensive linemen but none of them have had a major impact. Jonathan Allen could change that, as his ability to pressure the quarterback from the interior of the line is unparalleled in this draft. His ability to play all four spots on the line would make the Bears front four more versatile and dangerous.

Malik Hooker is a fast, athletic safety who has proven that he can do anything on the back end. The Ohio State product has the length and strength to play in the box, but it’s when he is allowed to drop back and patrol the field where he is the most dangerous.

Hooker is the more natural free safety while his counterpart Adams is more geared toward strong safety. Adams excels when he is the eighth man in the box and can just go thumping in run defense. He has the speed and athleticism to cover but you’re going to want to likely keep him on TEs or inside receivers.

If there is any pick in this draft that feels like a complete toss-up, it’s this one.
