2019 NFL Draft First-Round Rookie Props

Arizona Cardinals pick quarterback Kyler Murray first overall on day 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft on April 25, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The 2019 NFL Draft is in the books, and a fresh crop of rookies are set to make their debuts on the gridiron. Despite Week 1 of the new NFL season being just over three months away, sportsbooks are already gearing up for another year of action.

BetOnline has released a litany of prop specials for the 2019 NFL rookie class, which are highlighted below.

Anyone Need a Quarterback?

The book has the OVER/UNDER on rookie quarterbacks to start Week 1 of the regular season at 1.5 – a bet that will likely garner a significant amount of traction. Eleven quarterbacks were taken in the draft this year, with three (Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones and Dwayne Haskins) taken in the first round.

The biggest shock of that group was undeniably Jones. With the 38-year-old Eli Manning in tow, New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman opted to take Jones at No. 6. The decision was widely criticized, especially considering the Giants had the No. 17 pick and likely could’ve snagged the Duke signal-caller there.

BetOnline thinks Jones is going to see the field this season, as the shop has set the OVER/UNDER on his total starts at 4.5. Gettleman has made it known Jones won’t be rushed into the starting role any time soon while learning the ropes under Manning, so I’d take the UNDER on this prop.

What about Murray?

Holding the first overall pick, the Arizona Cardinals’ decision to select Murray wasn’t a shock to anyone. Murray looked like a natural fit in new Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s air raid offense, but the introduction of Murray to Arizona signaled the end of the brief Josh Rosen era.

Rosen, selected by the Cardinals with the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, was dealt to the Miami Dolphins on the second day of the draft. Rosen will have plenty of motivation to prove the doubters wrong after an underwhelming rookie campaign, but sportsbooks have Murray as the -300 favorite to make more starts in 2019, with Rosen coming back as the +200 underdog.
