NFL Injuries: Bad Week For QBs

As the field general and leader of the offense, the quarterback position is arguably the most important in all of football. This makes major injuries at the quarterback position particular difficult to overcome, and there were two such injuries in last week’s NFL action.

Most notably, the 7-3 Houston Texans lost quarterback Matt Schaub to a foot injury that will leave him out indefinitely. Houston has a bye week this week to get backup quarterback Matt Leinart acclimated with the first-team offense and to hopefully finally get Andre Johnson back from his nagging hamstring injury.

Kansas City’s Matt Cassel will also be out indefinitely with a hand injury, which he had surgery on this week. Kansas City already appeared to be on the decline with back to back losses at home against Miami and Denver, and is a 14.5-point underdog on the road this week at New England at TopBet.

Arizona quarterback Kevin Kolb (foot) is considered doubtful and could miss his third straight week, but the Cardinals have gotten by fine without him. John Skelton has led the team to wins over St. Louis and Philadelphia. Arizona is a 10-point underdog on the road at San Francisco at Bovada.

Michael Vick (ribs) is currently considered questionable for Philadelphia’s Sunday night matchup at the New York Giants. Philadelphia is a 5-point underdog at 5Dimes with Vick’s status in question. New York may be without starting running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), who is currently considered questionable with the foot injury that has kept him out of each of the last two games.

Oakland will likely be without two of their best offensive players this Sunday with Darren McFadden and Jacoby Ford both currently considered doubtful with foot injuries. Michael Bush and Denarius Moore had big games filling in for the injured stars against San Diego last week. The Raiders are currently a 1-point favorite on the road against Minnesota at BetOnline.

Buffalo wide receiver Steve Johnson (shoulder) is currently considered questionable for the Bills’ road game against Miami this week. Buffalo is a 1.5-point underdog at TopBet.
