NFL Injuries: Hobbled McFadden

This week’s midweek NFL injury report has its share of question marks with many key players around the league currently being considered questionable for this Sunday’s action, but one star player in worse shape than that is Darren McFadden.

McFadden left Oakland’s last game against Kansas City with a foot injury, and after the bye week he is still on crutches and is considered doubtful for this Sunday’s action against Denver. Michael Bush will fill in at running back, and Carson Palmer and new signee TJ Houshmandzadeh will be asked to help carry the offensive load. Oakland is an 8-point favorite at TopBet.

Another key player who is considered doubtful with a foot injury is Arizona quarterback Kevin Kolb, who sustained the injury in last Sunday’s loss to Baltimore. Kolb has had a disappointing year for the Cardinals, but his backup, John Skelton, has very little NFL experience.  Arizona is a 3-point favorite at home over St. Louis at 5Dimes.

Sam Bradford is still considered questionable with the high ankle sprain that has kept him out of action for the last two weeks. Backup A.J. Feeley was in at quarterback in St. Louis’ huge upset win over New Orleans last week.

Like Bradford, Houston wide receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) and Miami running back Daniel Thomas (Hamstring) are both considered questionable with the same injuries that kept them out last week. Houston is favored by 11 points even without their star receiver at home against Cleveland, and Miami is a 4.5-point underdog at Kansas City, both at BetOnline.

San Diego’s Ryan Mathews injured his groin in Monday night’s game against Kansas City and is considered questionable this week against undefeated Green Bay. Mathews is having a breakout season for the Chargers, and would deliver a big blow to their chances if he couldn’t play. San Diego is a 5.5-point home underdog at 5Dimes.

Currently an 8.5-point underdog at TopBet on the road against New England this week, the New York Giants aren’t being given much of a chance by bettors. Leading wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is considered questionable with a hamstring tweak, and his absence would make the Giants an even bigger longshot.
