NFL Opening Betting Lines: Week 7

The Indianapolis Colts have covered the spread in their last seven games as home underdogs. They’ll get a chance to make it eight in a row Sunday night when Peyton Manning and the undefeated Denver Broncos visit Lucas Oil Stadium in the most intriguing game of the Week 7 NFL slate.

The Broncos opened as 7.5-point favorites, but the number was down to minus-6 early in the week. Denver is coming off a closer-than-expected 35-19 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts were held out of the end zone in a 19-9 road loss to the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night. They’ll look to bounce back against the quarterback who led them to a Super Bowl title and multiple deep playoff runs.

Here’s a quick look at some of the other notable Week 7 Sportsbook lines:

New England Patriots at New York Jets

The New England Patriots opened as high as 6-point favorites at the New York Jets, but that line was down -3.5 at Sportsbook as of Tuesday morning. The Patriots are coming off a stunning comeback win over the New Orleans Saints. Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass with five seconds to play to cap off a winning drive that lasted just 46 seconds. The Jets will be looking to bounce back from a home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

New England has covered the spread in 12 of its last 14 visits to New York to face the Jets. Seven of the last eight meetings have gone over the total.

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles opened as 1.5-point favorites over the Cowboys in a battle of NFC East division leaders. The line ticked up slightly to minus-2 at several shops. Both teams have injury concerns that bettors will need to track closely through the week.

Philadelphia QB Mike Vick missed last game with a strained hamstring and is considered questionable again this week. If Vick can’t go, Nick Foles will get the start. Foles played well in the Eagles’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, and some have suggested that Foles should get the starting nod whether Vick can go or not. Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly had not made up his mind as to whom will be the starter as of early in the week.

Dallas could be without key contributors on both sides of the ball. Running back DeMarco Murray injured his knee in the Cowboys’ win over the Washington Redskins and is considered doubtful. DE DeMarcus Ware suffered a quad injury against the Redskins and is expected to miss Sunday’s game in Philadelphia

The Eagles have covered the spread in four of the last five meetings with Dallas.

Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs

The reeling Texans have lost four in a row and a have major quarterback controversy on their hands. Fans have given up on starter Matt Schaub and actually cheered when Schaub went down with an ankle injury in their loss to the St. Louis Rams. Schaub is considered doubtful; backup T.J. Yates is expected to get the start. The undefeated Chiefs, on the other hand, appear to be clicking on all cylinders. They are 7.5-point home favorites against the Texans.
