NFL Opening Odds for Week 8

Either the sportsbooks are catching on or folks who bet favorites for a living are catching on - there are no big underdogs on the NFL Week 8 Sportsbook odds list.

Underdogs are barking loudly once again after this week’s action in which they went 9-5 ATS. With underdogs having so much success and the league having so much parity this season, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that most of this week’s Sportsbook lines at shops like Sportsbook and Sportsbook are fairly low.

Only four games currently have lines of over four points, and all four are at home this week; Indianapolis -5.0 against Houston, New England -5.0 against Minnesota, New York Jets -6.0 against Green Bay, and Kansas City -7.5 against Buffalo.

Indianapolis is coming off of their bye looking for revenge against Houston after losing to them in the season opener. The Colts are 2-0 SU and ATS at home this season, and bettors will likely favor Peyton Manning at home; but Houston always plays Indianapolis tough, and that +5.0 may be worth taking a look at.

With Brett Favre either out or playing hurt Sunday with a fractured ankle, the line on New England has already moved from -4.0 to -5.0, and will likely continue moving in that direction. New England has been one of the few consistently reliable teams in the NFL this year, while Brett Favre has been extremely mistake-prone.

Since losing both SU and ATS in Week 1, the New York Jets have won five straight games both SU and ATS. This line opened at -4.5 and has moved to -6.0. Green Bay has struggled with injuries this season, and this stingy Jets defense had an extra week to prepare for Aaron Rodgers. [ Check out live NFL betting at Sportsbook in Week 8. ]

Both Kansas City and Buffalo did well against the spread last week, as Buffalo lost by only three as a 12.5-point underdog and Kansas City won by 22 as a 9-point favorite. Kansas City has been a consistent ATS moneymaker at 5-1 this season, including a 3-0 ATS record at home. One of the most surprising Sportsbook lines of the week is San Diego -4.0 at home against Tennessee. San Diego has been awful this season at 2-5 both SU and ATS while Tennessee is surging at 5-2 both SU and ATS. Considering how badly bettors have been burned by San Diego and how well Tennessee has treated them, the Titans will likely be a very popular bet.

Bettors seem to be extremely impressed by Oakland’s 59-14 win over Denver last week. Oakland opened as a 2-point underdog at home against Seattle, but have been bet down to a 1.5-point favorite.

Other Sportsbook NFL point spreads this week include home favorites Cincinnati -3.0 over Miami (now -2.5), Detroit -1.5 over Washington (now -2.5), St. Louis -3.0 over Carolina, Arizona -3.0 over Tampa Bay, and New Orleans -1.0 over Pittsburgh (now a PK).
