NFL Season Win Totals

With the NFL season just days away most football bettors are focusing on Week 1's lines and totals. Another wager catching the eyes of NFL fans are regular season win totals – an over/under bet on how many games each team will win in 2010.

These numbers have been posted for most of the summer, moving here and there with injuries and signings. But with everything set for Week 1, now is the most accurate time to handicap win totals. Here's one win total wager surprising NFL bettors: New England Patriots – over/under 9.5 wins at Sportsbook.ag It's been eight years since the New England Patriots failed to post double-digit wins in a single season. And that 9-7 campaign in 2002 was sandwiched between two of the team's three Super Bowl wins during the 2000's. New England posted 10 victories last year and brings back the majority of that squad including quarterback Tom Brady and receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker. The Patriots' 9.5-win total has a lot to do with the hype surrounding the New York Jets. Experts have tagged the Jets among the Super Bowl contenders in the AFC and have set them with the same 9.5-win total for this season. That might be a little steep for a team led by a second-year QB which needed a free pass in the final two games of the schedule just to make the playoffs last year. New England is still the class of the division and looked good during the preseason for the most part. The Patriots' defense is the big question but they face three divisional foes who ranked in the bottom half for offensive prowess last season. New England was dealt the sixth-most difficult schedule but has many of its tough games, like Indianapolis, Baltimore, Minnesota, and Green Bay, at home. The Patriots were a perfect 8-0 inside Gillette Stadium last year and are 21-3 as hosts over the past three seasons.
