NFL Week 16 Opening Odds Analysis

Possible playoff game previews highlight the NFL Week 16 card. Arizona opened minus four at home to Green Bay and is up to 4.5 at most bet shops. Denver is minus 3.5 hosting Cincinnati Monday night.

This is only the second time the Packers are an underdog this season. They closed plus one at Minnesota on November 22. The Packers are 3-10-1 ATS when taking points since the middle of 2012. The Cardinals are 20-11 against the spread (ATS) as a favorite under Bruce Arians.

The Bengals own the best spread mark in the NFL at 11-2-1. They are 2-0 ATS the two times they've been 'dogs this season beating Baltimore, 28-24, as 2.5 road 'dogs in Week 3 and falling to Arizona, 34-31, as four-point road 'dogs November 22.

Panthers Put Unbeaten Record on Line as Chalk

Carolina puts its unbeaten record on the line at Atlanta in a rematch from two weeks ago when the Panthers buried the Falcons, 38-0. The Panthers are favored by seven. Carolina closed minus 8.5 versus the Falcons in the first meeting.

New England is at the New York Jets where the Patriots opened minus 3 and are now 3.5 at some books. Rex Ryan didn't do many things right during his final three seasons with the Jets, but he did have a 5-1 ATS record versus the Patriots from 2012-14. The Jets lost 30-23 to New England in Week 7 getting a push as seven-point 'dogs.

Three Double-Digit Favorites on Week 16 board

There are three double-digit favorites on the board: Kansas City is minus 12 1/2 hosting Cleveland, Seattle is laying 13.5 at home against St. Louis and Pittsburgh has gone up to minus 10.5 at Baltimore. Those considering backing the underdog Ravens may take comfort in knowing NFL underdogs receiving eight or more points have covered 67 percent of the time during the past 51 instances.

Both double-digit favorites last week - New England and Seattle - covered pushing the 2015 mark to 12-2 straight-up and 7-7 ATS for teams laying 10 or more points.

The Packers-Cardinals matchup has this week's biggest total at 49.5. Expect that line to rise as a few places were at 50 by late Monday evening.
