NFL Week 17 Expert Betting Odds Picks

A pair of underdogs and a total are my NFL Week 17 recommendations. The total is under 39.5 in the Washington-Dallas matchup.

The Redskins are locked into the fourth seed by virtue of winning the NFC East Division. So this game means very little to them. I expect Jay Gruden to rest his starters, including hot quarterback Kirk Cousins, much of the game.

The Cowboys have failed to break the 20-point barrier during their last five games. They are averaging 9.6 points in their last three games. Kellen Moore is getting another start. He'll be without injured Dez Bryant, the Cowboys' lone receiving threat. Moore is undersized and undertalented at the NFL level. The Redskins' pass rush has come on to record 13 sacks the last three weeks.

Both teams are run-oriented and rank among the bottom three in terms of pace. The under has cashed in six of the Cowboys' past seven games, including the last four.

Take the Eagles and the Points on Sunday

There was more upheaval in Philadelphia this week with the firing of Chip Kelly. It seems some of the players didn't care much for Kelly. So I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles came out hard on the road against the New York Giants to show up Kelly. I'll take 3.5 points with Philadelphia, which has won and covered in seven of its last eight visits to the Giants.

The Giants are missing the playoffs for the fourth straight season under Tom Coughlin. The Giants have been highly disappointing down the stretch winning just one of their last six games - and that victory was against hapless Miami.

Raiders an Underdog Pick for this Week

I'll also take seven points with Oakland at Kansas City. The Raiders are 4-3 on the road this season, are on extra rest from having played in last week's Thursday game and won't lack for motivation in this long-standing division rivalry. Oakland is 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last five away matchups. The Raiders also are 7-2 ATS during their last nine games in Kansas City.

The Chiefs have a conservative offense. Their statistics are bolstered by being an AFC-best plus 15 in takeaways/giveaways.
