NFL Week 17 Prop Bets

As the NFL regular season concludes this weekend, Charlie Whitehurst is expected to start at quarterback for the must-win Seahawks and could pay off for props bettors.

Whitehurst hasn't been confirmed as the Seahawks' starting QB this weekend yet, but with Matt Hasselbeck unable to practice due to a hip injury it's likely only a matter of time before it happens.

Last week against Tampa Bay Whitehurst replaced an injured Hasselbeck in the first quarter and went on to complete 11-of-18 passes for 66 yards. Not exactly stellar numbers. Whitehurst has appeared in five games this season, completing 55.6% of his passes for 315 yards.

He only started in one of those games in Week 9 against the Giants. He didn't exactly impress in that game either, completing 12-of-23 passes for 113 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

At Bovada this weekend's NFL props for Whitehurst include passing yards and pass percentage. On the passing yards prop the oddsmakers came up with a total of 195.5 yards. This season the Seahawks have averaged 222.9 passing yards per game with Hasselbeck and Whitehurst at the helm.

The chances of Whitehurst breaking out and hitting the 200-yard mark this weekend seems unlikely since he barely passed the 100-yard mark in his last start against the Giants. Take the UNDER here.

For the pass percentage prop the oddsmakers at Bovada have posted a total of 52% with the OVER favored at -125. In his career of mop-up duty and injury replacement Whitehurst has completed 55.6% of his passes.

He'll be facing a Rams defense that has allowed opposing QBs to complete 57.3% of their passes this season. Even though Whitehurst hasn't seen a lot of action this season he's been at or OVER 50% when he has, so we'll take the OVER here.

Most of the other early NFL props available at Bovada involve the future of head coaches around the league. Specifically we're talking about Minnesota, Dallas, and San Francisco.

The Vikings haven't removed the interim tag from Leslie Frazier yet and there's been no indication that they will. Despite that the oddsmakers at Bovada have him listed as a -150 favorite to return next year, and a +110 underdog not to return.

The Cowboys' top job appears to be Jason Garrett's unless Jerry Jones can lure a big name out of retirement or maybe even snag John Fox after the offseason's expected round of firings. The Bovada oddsmakers think Garrett will remain in Big D after listing him as a -300 favorite to return and a +200 underdog to be replaced.

The biggest question mark right now is who's going to be the head coach in San Francisco. With Mike Singletary getting the axe the search begins next week after the 49ers' season ends with them out of the postseason.

At Bovada the oddmakers have come up with the usual names, Jon Gruden (+450), Bill Cowher (+1000), and Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh (+1000). With Harbaugh also linked to Michigan the best option may be to take the field at -300.
