NFL Odds: Week 3 Betting Trends

Week 3 of the NFL season kicks off Thursday night in Kansas City, where coach Andy Reid will bring the Chiefs into the city he coached for 14 seasons to take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

At Sportsbook, Kansas City is catching 3.5 from the Green Birds, who have covered all four meetings dating back since 1992. And while the Chiefs are 1-11 straight-up when oddsmakers install them as an underdog, the Eagles have also failed to cover 6 of their last 7 as the favorite.

On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys will look to rebound from their loss to Reid's Chiefs, as the Pokes return home, where they're laying -4 points to the St. Louis Rams. Dallas, which covered its home opener in Week 1 against the New York Giants, is mired in a 4-14 ATS skid at owner Jerry Jones' play palace, AT&T Stadium. On the flipside, the Rams have covered 6 of their last 7 while toting a travel bag.

The San Diego Chargers are making their second consecutive trip across the country, and though Tennessee is in the Central time zone, and it's not quite as far as Philadelphia - by about 800 miles - it's still a long haul to endure after last week's emotional road win over the Eagles.

Then again, perhaps bettors don't need to worry about logistics since the Bolts have won nine straight over the Titans and have covered eight of those games, dating back to 1993. Also, the Chargers are in on an 8-3 ATS run when catching points, while the Titans have failed to cover 11 of their last 15 as the chalk.

Green Bay got back on track with a 38-20 victory Sunday over the Washington Redskins, and head back on the road to take on the Bengals in Cincinnati, where the Packers are laying -3 points. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers was masterful last week, completing 34 for 42 pass attempts with no interceptions, and became just the second quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 480 yards and four touchdowns without throwing a pick.

The good fortune may carry over, as the Packers check in on ATS win streaks of 5-1 versus the Bengals since 1986 and 8-1 when laying the points. Buyers beware, though, as the Bengals have won 5 of 9 straight-up when installed as the underdog.
