NFL Wild Card betting trends

If you had bet all NFC home teams and all AFC road teams the past four Wild Card weekends, you would have gone 12-4 ATS and pocketed some nice profits.

NFC home teams are 6-2 ATS the past four NFL post-seasons, while AFC road teams are 6-2 ATS over the same timeframe.

But Wild Card betting has hardly provided reliable patterns in recent years and it is a much different animal to handicap than the regular season.

Last year, all four home teams won. Two years ago, all four road teams won. In 2013, three home favorites and one home underdog (Washington) will try to advance their own causes and those of bettors.

Head-to-head trends offer more handicapping intrigue as the Colts are on an 8-0 ATS run against the Ravens, while the Texans are riding a 5-0 ATS streak against the Bengals.

The Ravens have struggled as a home favorite, while the Bengals have been excellent as a road dog lately. The Packers have won seven in a row at home, but the Vikings have been a dangerous underdog (8-3 ATS run).

And in Washington, the Redskins have been a profitable underdog play, while the visiting Seahawks have been a lousy bet on the road in the playoffs over the years.
