Nover: Cardinals, Panthers & Bucs Notes

Admit it. You laid the points with Arizona against Minnesota on Thursday night. How could you not?

The Vikings had just lost by 31 points to Seattle at home, had three key defensive injuries and were playing an elite opponent on the road in a short week.

The Cardinals were steamed up from being seven-point opening line favorites all the way to 10.5, closing a consensus minus 10. One well known Internet bet shop even got as high as Arizona minus 11.5.

It was the most lopsided, one-way betting on any Thursday game this season. Huge line moves like this happen during preseason when bookmakers often adjust numbers on air based off breaking information. Rarely do they occur during the regular season.

The house would rather not sweat out such a major decision, but they got the cash when Arizona won by only three points.

Odds on the Panthers Going 19-0

Can the Carolina Panthers go 19-0? There is at least one Internet book, Bet365 , that is offering plus $7.50 on that happening. The Panthers are 8.5-point home favorites against Atlanta this week.

Carolina plays at the New York Giants next Sunday. The Westgate in Las Vegas has put out the Panthers as 3.5-point favorites against the Giants with their early look-ahead line.

Carolina concludes its regular season with a rematch against the Falcons and hosts Tampa Bay in Week 17.

Bucs can go OVER season win total

Speaking of Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers can clinch their regular season over/under win total with a victory versus New Orleans on Sunday. The Buccaneers are four-point home favorites. Tampa Bay is 6-6. The Buccaneers' win total was set at six.

New England, the New York Jets and Oakland can all go over their projected win totals, too, with victories on Sunday. The 10-win Patriots had a 10.5 over/under win total. The 7-5 Jets' win total was 7.5 victories and the 5-7 Raiders would surpass their 5.5 win total with an upset road win against Denver.

On the flip side, St. Louis would fall short of its projected 7.5 win total at some shops with a home loss to Detroit this week. The 4-8 Rams are three-point underdogs to the Lions.
