Surprising Ravens Aim for Four Straight vs. Raiders

It’s still early, but the Baltimore Ravens (3-0) have completely erased the memory of last year’s disappointing 5-11 campaign. Next up on the docket is a Week 4 matchup with the Oakland Raiders (2-1) at M&T Bank Stadium.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone OVER in seven of the Raiders' last nine games as road underdogs.
  • The total has gone OVER in seven of the Ravens' last eight games against the AFC West division.
  • The Raiders are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as underdog.

The Ravens, who opened as 3.5-point home favorites, have had a major edge in this series lately. Oakland is a measly 2-10 SU and 3-9 ATS in its last 12 games against Baltimore. Sportsbooks opened the total for the contest at 46.5.

That doesn’t mean the Ravens are a sure thing when it comes to cashing spread tickets, however. Joe Flacco and company are 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games in Maryland, but they covered there in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills.

The betting public and oddsmakers still aren’t quite sure what to make of the new-look Raiders. Oakland was an NFL doormat for over a decade, but the front office did a nice job by bringing in exciting young pieces like Derek Carr and Amari Cooper to jump-start the offense. Many people expected the Raiders to contend for a playoff spot this year, although it still remains to be seen if they’ve reached that level yet.

Baltimore wasn’t in the AFC North conversation entering the year, but they’ve snatched the division lead with relative ease as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals have faltered. A relatively soft schedule has benefited John Harbaugh’s club, as wins over the Bills, Browns and Jaguars weren’t necessarily considered to be tough games.

Stringing wins together has been a tall order for the black and silver lately. Dating back the last few years, the Raiders are 2-15 SU in their last 17 games after a victory.
