NFL Odds To Go Winless: Lions, Jets Are Early Favorites

The Detroit Lions are the betting favorites in latest NFL winless team odds.

As we head into Week 3 of the NFL season, a number of teams still have yet to win a game. Seven teams, to be exact. Let’s take a look at the odds and make our pick for the most likely team to go winless in 2021-22.

BetOnline has odds on whether any team will go 0-17, with the Detroit Lions leading the pack at +1600. The Lions are coming off two defeats to begin the season, allowing a total of 76 points in those games. Looking at their schedule, there really aren’t any games that you can feel confident in this team winning.

Why The Lions Will Go Winless

The Lions are certainly one of the worst teams in the NFL, if not the worst. There is no aspect of this team that really stands out. They have a quarterback you kind of already know what to expect from, and they have a defence that has struggled mightily to start the campaign.

The two opposing signal-callers that the Lions played in the first two weeks were Jimmy Garoppolo and Aaron Rodgers. Getting torched by Aaron Rodgers happens to the best, but getting torched by Jimmy G should not happen.

What’s Left For The Lions?

Looking ahead at Detroit’s schedule, it may not be a bad idea to take a flyer on this team to go winless. Going into the season, the Lions had one of the more difficult schedules in the NFL.

The Lions’ next three weeks put them at home to the Baltimore Ravens and then on the road against division foes Chicago and Minnesota. The game that stands out to me as one they could win is a Week 6 date at home vs the Cincinnati Bengals, presenting a good opportunity because the Bengals play in Baltimore the following week and could be looking ahead to that one.

If the Lions remain winless following that Cincinnati game, then look out! It is still early, but at +1600, you are getting pretty good value if you are looking to take a flyer.

Why The Jets Will Go Winless

The Jets have not looked good out of the gates thus far. Their first selection in the 2021 draft, second overall pick Zach Wilson, has had a difficult start to his NFL career.

In his first two games, the young quarterback has two touchdown passes and five interceptions while completing only 55.7 percent of his passes. Though it is early, he has not looked good, and if this team has any hopes of putting some wins together, Wilson is going to have to play significantly better.

Looking at the Jets’ next few weeks, they play at Denver, vs the Titans and at Atlanta, all games that I see them likely losing. After their Week 6 bye, there are certainly some winnable games for the Jets, though. They have games against the Texans and Jaguars, two teams that are in a rebuilding phase.

The Jets have scored a total of 20 points in their first two games, which isn’t going to get it done. If this team wants to win games, their offense needs to be a lot better and that starts with their QB, Zach Wilson.

Better Bet: Lions Or Jets?

The reason why I like the Lions bet much more than the Jets bet is because New York has a young QB who is going to continuously improve. The Lions, on the other hand, have a QB in Jared Goff who has already shown most of what he is capable of.

On top of that, the Lions are a better bet because they have an incredibly difficult schedule while the Jets have a much easier one.

Best Bet: Lions To Go Winless (+1600)
