Why The Lions Will Go Winless

The Lions haven’t looked very good on either side of the ball early in the 2021-22 NFL campaign, ranking 24th in points scored and 29th in points allowed. They are coming off a poor showing against a Bears team that had been struggling to that point.

I don’t see much promise for this team in terms of the rest of the season. Quarterback Jared Goff has looked all right thus far, but the Detroit defense has struggled to stop pretty much everything.

What’s Left For The Lions?

The reason the Lions are +850 to go winless is due to their remaining schedule. The Lions are likely going to be the underdog in every single game the rest of the way this season. They are easily the worst team in this division and they don't have any easy games.

Looking at potential games where they could possibly pull off an upset, look no further than Week 8 at home against the Eagles. They also meet the Falcons later in the season; Atlanta’s defense has been atrocious so far this season, and it doesn’t appear to be on an upward trajectory.

The Lions, on the other hand, have struggled on both sides of the ball and their quarterback hasn’t done enough to win them any games. Rams coach Sean McVay was able to maximize Jared Goff’s potential in Los Angeles, but it seems like he will struggle to reach that point again.

The Lions looked absolutely atrocious this past week against the Bengals. They missed opportunity after opportunity in the first half to keep it close. But I cannot say I am surprised, as this is probably the worst team in football. There is a real possibility that this team goes winless. This upcoming week they travel to Los Angeles to play the Rams where they are 15-point underdogs.
