Kyler Murray NFL Draft Odds: Dolphins Favored to Land the Heisman Winner

Kyler Murray has officially declared for the 2019 NFL Draft, and sportsbooks are already gearing up to project which team will land the dual-sport phenom.

Sportsbook has released odds on where he’ll land in the draft, with the Miami Dolphins leading the way at +150. The Arizona Cardinals (+500), New York Giants (+500), Jacksonville Jaguars (+500) and Oakland Raiders (+700) are the next likeliest squads to draft Murray at the shop.

The Miami Dolphins are the +150 favorites to draft Kyler Murray.

Murray, who was chosen with the ninth overall selection in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics, was given the chance to continue playing football for Oklahoma. The 21-year-old made the most of it, winning the Heisman Trophy in only his second season as a starter for the Sooners. Murray passed for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns while running for 1,001 yards and another 12 scores, posting the second-best passer efficiency in FBS history.

Even though Murray had already received a $4.7-million signing bonus from the A’s, it’s clear his heart was with football the whole time, and the chance to be a pro quarterback was simply too good an option to pass up. There are no shortage of quarterback-needy teams in the NFL right now, as Murray is projected to be a first-round pick.

On February 11, Murray tweeted “moving forward, I am firmly and fully committing my life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback.” As a result, he’ll be forced to forfeit $1.29 million of the signing bonus to the A’s.

Where will Murray go?

Seeing the Dolphins at the top of the list is not much of a surprise. On February 1, it was reported Miami was planning to move on from quarterback Ryan Tannehill and had plans to cut the signal-caller in the offseason. Tannehill’s time with the Dolphins had clearly run its course, and the Dolphins, who own the 13th overall selection, could be an excellent landing spot for Murray.

Jacksonville has already made it known Blake Bortles won’t return to the club next year, making them yet another team in the hunt for a new quarterback. It’s hard to see the Jags taking a risk on a young quarterback after the failed Bortles experiment, so it’s more likely they go the veteran route under center in the offseason.

The Cardinals are an intriguing option, though. New head coach Kliff Kingsbury, then with Texas Tech, said back in October that he would take Murray with the first overall pick in the NFL draft if he could. Arizona owns the No. 1 selection in the draft, yet with 2018’s No. 10 overall pick Josh Rosen already on the roster, it would be a shock to see them take a quarterback in back-to-back years. Stranger things have happened in the NFL, however.
