Patriots among 7 road favorites

NFL betting is always full of surprises, but who would have expected this week’s matchup between the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills to be a battle of undefeated teams?

The Patriots starting off 2-0 isn’t any surprise, as they are now 16-2 SU in their last 18 regular season games. But for a Buffalo team that finished last season 4-12, the hot start is a bit of a head-scratcher.

New England has had no trouble at all handling Buffalo over the last few years; they are 15-0 SU in their last 15 meetings with the Bills, and 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven road games at Buffalo. It’s hard to make strong case for Buffalo as a 9-point home underdog considering these stats and the way Tom Brady has looked.

For the second straight week, OVERs dominated the board with another 12-4 record. As a result, all but one game on the board this week opened with a total of 41 points or more, with Pittsburgh at Indianapolis the only exception at 39.

Pittsburgh (-11) is one of two double-digit favorites this week, with San Diego (-15) at home against Kansas City being the other.

In Week 2, favorites were 8-7-1 ATS and home teams were 11-5 SU.

Key matches with Week 3 odds courtesy of Bovada:

Jets -3.5 at Oakland – Oakland’s defense was exposed in the second half last week, and New York cruised to an easy victory. But will traveling three time zones for their first road game negatively affect the Jets?

Jaguars +3.5 at Carolina – Cam Newton has been one of the biggest stories of the 2011 season, passing for over 400 yards in two straight losing efforts. Can he get win number one here?

Packers -4 at Chicago – Green Bay is 4-1 SU in their last five meetings with Chicago, and the total has gone UNDER in seven straight. Good spot for a parlay?

Lions -4 at Minnesota – Rising Lions look to improve to 3-0 as falling Vikings look to avoid an 0-3 start. Last six games between these two have gone UNDER.
