Heading into their preseason opener the New England Patriots remained the clear favorites on the odds to win the AFC East division title at online sportsbook Sportsbook, and they're also heavily favored to make the playoffs once again this season.
And that's with Tom Brady's status for the first four games of the regular season still up in the air. The team's starting quarterback is scheduled to be suspended for the first quarter of the campaign; Brady and the NFLPA are trying to get the suspended overturned by the courts.
But even with backup Jimmy Garoppolo potentially starting the first four games of the season for the Patriots they're still at -170 against the field on the odds to win the AFC East division title at Sportsbook. New England is also at -290 at the sportsbook to advance to the postseason once again as they try to defend their Super Bowl title.
The Miami Dolphins are then at +330 against the field at Sportsbook on the AFC East division odds, with the Buffalo Bills at +480, and the New York Jets at +1300. The Jets will be without starting quarterback Geno Smith indefinitely thanks to the broken jaw he suffered when he was punched in the face by a teammate at training camp.
And New York is at just +440 odds to make the playoffs at the sportsbook, with Buffalo at +170 and Miami at +145. The Jets finished just 4-12 last season, while the Dolphins were 8-8 and the Bills were 9-7; all three of those teams missed the playoffs in 2014.
